NRC offers learn to row classes for anyone who is interested in taking up the sport of rowing! The classes involve a brief orientation, and we get you out on the water on the very FIRST DAY. Experienced rowers will teach you the rowing stroke, basic rowing commands, and boat handling. The two-day class costs $50.00 per person, which will be credited to your club dues should you decide to join. After you complete the class, you are encouraged to come out to two open rows to practice what you’ve learned. This gives you the opportunity to row with NRC, meet members, and get to know us before you even join! Once you’ve been to two open rows you are welcome to continue rowing with the club by joining and paying the membership dues. See our membership policy under the members tab for all the details.
Generally, classes are held in May and early in September. Start watching the website a couple months prior for the sign-up announcement. During the winter months and during other months when our competitive groups are involved in regattas (races), classes are not held. All open rows are held at Hamilton Creek Marina.

Rowing Safety:
Our rowing shell is under the command of the coxswain. Our rowing time will be approximately one hour. We are here to ensure that you have a comfortable and safe row with us. With that in mind, we remind you that rowing is a water sport, and it is important that you are a proficient swimmer. In the unlikely event of an emergency, your oar may be used as a flotation device.
Your oarlock has been designed for easy closure and release. To close, insert the oar into the oarlock, and turn the plastic fitting until it fits snugly. To release the oar, simply unscrew the plastic fitting.
In preparation for rowing, please ensure that your oarlocks are scurely fastened, and that you are not wearing any baggy clothing, as it may become entangled in the moving parts of the boat. A change of clothing and old athletic shoes is recommended.
Thank you for your attention. We will be rowing shortly!
